An antiscalant dosing package should deliver the approved chemical quantity consistently across the industrial RO feed-flow range. Procurement needs a clear dose basis, compatible solution preparation, a pump that can be calibrated under actual backpressure and controls that confirm delivery. A larger dosing pump or a generic chemical tank does not resolve an undefined scaling-control requirement.
Define the chemical duty before selecting equipment
Start the RFQ with a current feed-water analysis, the intended RO operating envelope and the membrane model. Give the chemical supplier the proposed recovery, pH, temperature range and relevant upstream treatment chemicals. Request a written recommendation identifying the proposed antiscalant and the conditions under which its dose applies. Antiscalant selection depends on the scale-forming species and their concentration in the membrane system. The metering skid is the delivery mechanism for that recommendation; it cannot compensate for missing chemistry data or an unsuitable production operating point.
Separate the chemical review from the equipment comparison. A bid should identify the product to be used, its concentration basis and the responsibility for updating the recommendation when feed water changes. Ask whether the stated dose refers to supplied commercial product or active ingredient. These are different mass bases and should not be mixed in the calculation. Also identify any compatibility assessment required for coagulant carryover or other additions. Procurement can then compare pump and control packages against the same documented duty rather than accepting several unrelated nominal dosing capacities.

Translate the approved dose into a solution delivery range
For a dose D expressed as milligrams of supplied product per litre of feed, and a feed flow Q in cubic metres per hour, the product mass rate is D multiplied by Q in grams per hour. Divide that mass rate by the prepared solution's product concentration in grams per litre to obtain solution delivery in litres per hour. This is a unit conversion, not a recommended operating dose. Record the supplier-approved dose and the actual solution concentration separately so operators can identify which input has changed when delivery needs adjustment.
Calculate the minimum and maximum required delivery for every intended production mode. Include a reduced-flow train, a newly commissioned train and any mode using a different approved chemical recipe. Avoid sizing only at peak feed flow because the pump may have poor usable adjustment at the lower duty. If dilution is proposed to improve metering, ask the chemical supplier to approve the dilution water, concentration, preparation method and storage period. A volume-based dilution also requires a clear definition of final prepared volume; adding a stated water volume is not automatically the same calculation.
Send the feed-water analysis, target quality, required capacity and operating profile. We will help structure the next engineering questions.
Send your project inputsSelect a metering pump at the actual injection pressure
The quotation should show pump capacity against the expected injection backpressure, not only its free-discharge rating. Account for the feed-pipe pressure, injection fitting and delivery-line losses. Confirm the permissible suction arrangement and whether tank level changes affect operation. Request the pump's usable adjustment range, selected wetted materials and calibration method. A calibration column or another suitable measurement arrangement should let the operator check real delivery without disconnecting a chemical line or defeating the system's protective functions.
Define the accessories from the selected pump and layout. Review the need for a pressure-relief route, backpressure control, pulsation management, anti-siphon protection and an injection check valve with the equipment supplier. Their functions differ, and one item should not be assumed to replace another. Show where a relief discharge returns and ensure that its receiving vessel can accommodate the event safely. If a standby pump is purchased, include isolation and changeover details that allow service without accidentally providing two simultaneous chemical feeds to the same operating train.
Make solution preparation repeatable and maintainable
Specify usable tank volume from the planned preparation interval and delivery rate, with allowance for low-level shutdown and an identifiable residual heel. Provide a measurable filling method and a written preparation sequence. Label the tank for its chemical service, solution basis and preparation date. Review all wetted components together: tank, suction lance, tubing, pump head, seals, fittings and injection equipment. Compatibility depends on the actual product and operating conditions, so an acceptable tank material alone is not evidence that the entire chemical package is suitable.
Decide how the solution will be mixed, inspected, drained and prepared again. Include access for cleaning and a method for handling unused or off-specification solution according to site procedures. Keep incompatible chemicals in separate identified systems. If the plant uses more than one antiscalant, provide a deliberate product-change procedure and reassess the pump calibration and dose basis. Operator access matters: routine filling should not require climbing over production piping, and tank inspection should not depend on moving an energized pump or opening a pressurized connection.
Specify flow permission and evidence of delivery
A flow-proportional dosing command should use a feed-flow signal that represents the water actually receiving chemical. Identify the transmitter, signal scaling and failure response in the control narrative. Require an intentional configuration review when the flowmeter range changes. A pump running indicator proves that a motor or actuator has been commanded; it does not by itself prove solution delivery. Select suitable confirmation measures, such as tank-level trends, calibrated drawdown or a compatible flow-monitoring device, according to the consequence of lost dosing.
Define what happens when feed flow is absent, the chemical tank is low, the flow signal is invalid or the dosing package reports failure. Coordinate those states with the RO supplier's operating restrictions and restart sequence. Avoid leaving a metering pump enabled indefinitely against a closed production line. If a duty pump fails, document whether the standby starts automatically and how successful changeover is confirmed. Include alarm acknowledgement and restoration rules so a cleared screen message does not silently restore operation before the chemical delivery problem has been corrected.
Plan the injection location and commissioning checks
Agree the injection location with the RO and chemical suppliers using the actual pretreatment diagram. The selected point should allow the intended chemical to mix with the feed before the membrane train while respecting compatibility with other additions. Show injection fittings, sample locations and access for maintenance on the drawing. Check that a shared chemical header cannot send solution into an isolated train through an unintended path. A labelled isolation arrangement and documented valve lineup help commissioning personnel distinguish the intended operating connection from a convenient but unsuitable nearby nozzle.
Commissioning should confirm the solution preparation, feed-flow signal, actual pump delivery and protective responses under representative conditions. Record calibration results at more than one required duty point when the adjustment range is material to the application. Verify that tank-level protection and loss-of-flow logic act as agreed. Use a site-approved test method for the chemical and pressure conditions involved. The acceptance record should state what was directly measured and what remains dependent on final feed chemistry, rather than treating a dry control demonstration as proof of chemical dosing performance.
Compare quotations using delivery evidence and lifecycle scope
Ask bidders for a duty matrix, material schedule, pump data, tank drawing, injection arrangement and control description. Identify electrical supply, signal interfaces, operator language and replacement-parts requirements. The commercial comparison should include calibration accessories, standby arrangements and the initial spare-parts package. Confirm whether the chemical supplier's recommendation is included or must be obtained separately. A low equipment price can conceal an incomplete scope when the quotation omits the instruments or connections needed to demonstrate the required delivery rate after installation.
Build the handover around tasks the plant will repeat: preparing solution, checking delivery, responding to a dosing alarm and updating the recipe after an approved chemistry review. Retain calibration and solution-preparation records alongside RO operating trends. Do not infer a guaranteed membrane service life from the purchase of a dosing skid; fouling, oxidation and mechanical problems have other causes. Send Baihuipu the feed-water analysis, chemical recommendation, feed-flow range, injection pressure and existing control interfaces to develop a focused antiscalant-package specification and comparable equipment quotation.
Questions buyers commonly ask
Should antiscalant dosing follow permeate flow or feed flow?+
Use the flow basis stated in the chemical recommendation. When the approved dose is expressed per litre of feed water, calculate delivery from the feed flow that actually receives the chemical.
Can the antiscalant always be diluted to suit a small pump?+
Obtain approval for the selected product's dilution water, concentration and storage conditions. Then document the prepared solution concentration and recalibrate delivery.
Does a pump running signal prove antiscalant is reaching the RO?+
No. Confirm delivery using a suitable measurement method and review tank level, suction conditions and injection backpressure when actual delivery differs from the command.
What information is needed for an antiscalant skid quotation?+
Provide the approved dose basis, feed-flow range, solution concentration, injection pressure, product compatibility requirements, utility data and the required alarm and shutdown interfaces.
